Remote work has changed many things, including how we live at home. Before remote work, the home was mainly a place to relax, rest, and rejuvenate. Today, your home is also the place where you can work and be an active part of your organization.
However, remote work comes with its own set of challenges. For instance, there might be distractions or a lack of activity, which can lead to many illnesses, such as spider veins. While there are medical treatments to eliminate spider veins, you might as well adopt a healthy and active lifestyle to prevent obesity in the first place.
You get the point – remote work shouldn’t be treated as a luxury; it should be treated as a job, which is why you need to make certain home adjustments to boost productivity by increasing your attention span.
Here is what you need to know:
Maintain a Separate Office Space
You cannot expect to be productive when you don’t try to establish a dedicated office space. That said, if you have to take up space in the living room or set up an entire room for your office – then do so.
If you are setting up an entire room to turn it into an office, then we don’t recommend making things cozy there. In other words, you might want to keep things like couch and fireplace inserts for your living room alone.
When it comes to setting up an office space, you must ensure that you create an environment where you can work wholeheartedly with real dedication. You might want to invest in high-quality, ergonomic furniture and focus on installing the right lighting.
Ideally, you should never install warmer lights in your workspace as it can cause you to fall asleep. If you live in an apartment and don’t have a spare room to establish a dedicated office, you can use any space that you have, such as the space underneath the stairs or a closet.
Don’t Multitask
Most people who work from home struggle with juggling loads of tasks at once. That said, if you feel overwhelmed with deadlines, you need to follow one simple trick, which is to focus on one task at a time. That said, avoid multitasking. In your mind, you might be achieving a lot by doing different tasks at a time; however, the truth is that you might not complete any of them.
Your brain works in the best condition when you focus on one task at one time. If you have a bigger project at hand, you might want to break the project into smaller milestones and focus on achieving one milestone before you proceed to the next.
Take Breaks
If you are working from home, you might be spending extensive hours on the laptop. Staying in a sitting position for a long time is bad for your health, so it is recommended to look up from the screen at least once every twenty minutes. You might as well get up and walk around after every two hours. Taking frequent yet short breaks is good for a productivity boost.
